Newton's Challenge

Thanks for visiting this site. It was created by a group of three Chemistry students from Highlands Christian Academy. Our names our Sarah Gordon, Vanessa Garette, and Kellye Buch. We are participating in an event called the Newton's Challenge. We are given about 1 month to complete a catapult and a hovercraft. We have to make this all from scratch and without outside help. We are also including a section that tells about our faith in God. Enjoy!

We were supposed to meet this weekend in order to set up this website, but our schdeules conflicted so we will meet further on this week. We are going to pick our designs for the catapult and hovercraft during the next meeting. We are also going to go out and purchasing the supplies we need.

3/12/05- Today we met to work on our hovercraft. We went out and bought the motors and battery connecter. The fans weigh 2.5 ounces each and have a strong amount of thrust. We were able to decide on the models that we will build off of. We have started forming the base for the catapult also.

4/18/05 Our competitions for the hovercraft and the catapult are this week. Wednesday is the hovercraft competition, and Thursday is the catapult competition. Today we met to put the finishing touches on both of our projects. We hope to do well in the competition this week.

5/1/05 Today we met to improve our catapult and hovercraft. We competed on April 20th and 21st in the hovercraft and catapult competitions. Overall we did well. We did better than we expected in the hovercraft competition and a little worse than we expected in the catapult competition. Now we must improve both our hovercraft and catapult for a May 14th interschool competition. That Saturday we will go to our school and have a larger competition for both the hovercraft and the catapult. Some other schools were invited to compete as well.
